For one local woman, life changed drastically when she received a liver transplant 15 years ago. With a second chance at life, Dara Grieger now embraces every opportunity that comes her way.

Grieger plans to celebrate the 15th anniversary of her transplant by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro next February.

"As I approach the 15th anniversary of my transplant, I've decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2010 to raise money and awareness for organ donation," Grieger said. "I started the organization called Summit Day to bring together a team to climb for transplant-related causes."

Grieger wants to raise public awareness about the needs of people who are awaiting transplantation, and to encourage more people to become organ donors. She will also be helping transplant recipients in Rochester by raising funds for the B. Thomas Golisano Hospitality House and American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, which both provide out-of-town organ transplant and cancer patients, along with their caregivers, a place to stay while undergoing treatment in Rochester.

The fundraiser is currently underway, with a goal to raise $10,000. Proceeds will help fund the Hospitality House, Hope Lodge, and the Summit Day climb.
