Education Commissioner Visits Rochester Schools
Some schools in Rochester received a thumbs-up review Wednesday from the New York State education commissioner.

Dr. David Steiner visited the Cathedral School at Holy Rosary on Lexington Avenue, the Challenger Program and the Genesee Community Charter School at the Rochester Museum and Science Center.

His visits were part of a listening tour of Rochester's schools to determine how they are doing. Steiner said the schools he visited are right on track.

The tour was also a way to see what can be done on the state level in terms of improvement.

"We do important work to protect children and to ensure that they learn in safe and good environments, but more than that, we have to be a source of important innovation and help. The recommendations for what we can do come from here, come from the field," Dr. Steiner said.

Steiner also commended the enthusiasm of students and parents at the schools he visited.
