Going to the prom can be costly. The dress and everything else that comes along with the big event is just too expensive for some families.
The Fairy Godmothers help dress and make-over girls for prom day all across the country. One local organization held a dress drive this weekend for the national organization.
Stephanie Shirley started Katie Shirley's Closet in memory of her daughter, Katie Shirley. Katie's Closet collects dresses for the Fairy Godmothers.
"We've joined with them to remember my daughter's legacy," said Stephanie. "Prom was an important part of her life, so we hooked up with the Fairy Godmothers and helping them get dresses for girls that are unable to go to prom for financial reasons."
Katie is one of the Fairport Five. Five Fairport High School graduates who died in a car crash over the summer.
