"We really are fighting this battle on a lot of different fronts and I think these pink boxing gloves are the perfect symbol," Dr. Kristin Skinner, surgical Oncologist at Wilmot Cancer Center said.
Amateur and pro boxers are preparing to get in the ring with pink gloves on to help, Knockout Breast Cancer.
The annual event was inspired by a local survivor who's determined to keep up the fight.
"So many people came out to help me out. As a result of that I'm turning around and want to try to raise as much money as I can for the next person in line who's being diagnosed," Megan Mackenzie said. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007.
Mackenzie started taking boxing fitness classes to get her strength back after chemo.
Her fight inspired the event that aims to raise thousands of dollars for research, education and outreach at the Wilmot Cancer Center and Camp Good Days and Special Times Women's Oncology Program.
"Cancer just doesn't stop. It's not gonna take a break just because our economy does, so hopefully this year we can raise some money and put it to good work" event chair Julie Doyle said.
Girls Hit the Ring to Knockout Breast Cancer is Friday April 3 in Pittsford.
"If events like this can get one more woman to go in and get her mammogram when she's supposed to, then we've saved a life and that's really the most important thing here," Dr. Skinner said.
Tickets are $100 per person and $175 for two.
