Golisano Children's Hospital is introducing interactive technology for asthma care.

It's called the GetWellNetwork. The goal of the network is to educate patients and their families, to reduce the number of times patients have to be re-admitted or taken to the emergency room.

Before being discharged, patients will be required to watch videos to learn about asthma and how to take care of their asthma at home.

Families will also get a written asthma action plan to take with them.

"So if the child starts having symptoms, it's very clear what the parents can do to hopefully help either completely alleviate those symptoms, or at least cut them down," said Dr. Michael Leonard, of Golisano Children's Hospital. "Or if the medications are not working, it tells them exactly when to contact their primary physician. Make sure they get the medical attention."

The GetWellNetwork includes educating patient's families about the importance of not smoking.
