The University at Buffalo played host to some special kids with a special disease Saturday. The college hosted a "Coach to Cure M.D." tailgate event before the UB football game.

Christine Piacentino and her son, Jonathan, from Penfield joined in the party.

It was an extension of last weekend's fundraiser where coaches throughout the country wore patches to raise money and awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The disease, which appears mostly in young boys under the age of six, is a rapid progression of muscle degeneration. It also impacts the heart.

Jonathan Piacentino lives with the disease.

"The organization, Coach to Cure MD, is focused on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is one of 40 muscular dystrophies noted, and we really want to end Duchenne and, hopefully, come up with a therapy and cures," said Christine Piacentino.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy impacts one out of every 3,500 children and is considered rare.
