The Rochester region will soon be filled with decorative places to have a seat. "The Benches on Parade" project launched Monday.
The project from Nazareth College will transform functional benches into artwork from local and national artists.
Organizers say more than 100 businesses have bought benches for the big parade and can now begin working with their artist of choice on the vision for their bench.
"We're proud because it brings together the community and we're proud because it's also an opportunity to showcase for the entire country that this city, that the city of Rochester, is really a city that's committed to art and culture," said Daan Braveman, Nazareth College president.
The proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the Nazareth College Arts Center, as well as other organizations.
Benches are expected to be done by summer 2010.
