YNN Rochester and our parent company Time Warner Cable are working to "Connect a Million Minds" through a nationwide effort to focus kids on science, technology, engineering and math.
On Wednesday, hundreds of students joined the Time Warner Cable workforce for the day in Rochester, Buffalo, Albany, Syracuse and New England as part of the national "Connect a Million Minds Week."
In Rochester, students from Edison High School and McQuaid's FIRST Robotics Team took part in a tour. The group is taking part in Time Warner Cable's signature hands-on technology curriculum called "Cracking the Codes in the Digital World."
Time Warner Cable sponsored McQuaid's Robotics Team in its largely successful first year.
"Students are easily able to translate the lessons from athletics to science and technology and make heroes of brainiak nerd programmers, give them an opportunity to shine and excel and be recognized. And I think that is one of the great things about 'Connect a Million Minds.' To focus in on that same level, things that are core to our nation and our economy which are science, technology, engineering and math – all of which are where jobs are going to be in the future," said John Maxwell, McQuaid Robotics Team leader.
