A new piece of technology that has improved hearing for thousands of people has made its way to Rochester.

Small enough to hold between your fingers, the Lyric Hearing Aid is worn inside the inner ear.

It is the first hearing device that isn't visible when worn. Once placed into the ear canal the Lyric will stay there until the high-powered batteries need to be changed.

Doctors say the technology, which has only been out for two year, is ideal for those with moderate hearing loss.

"The beauty of the product is that you don't deal with it. You just put it in you come back into to see your audiologist, you know in three months, four months and we exchange it and put another one in. That procedure takes five minutes at most," said Dr. Stephen Hart of Hart Hearing Centers.

Patients at the Hart Hearing Centers are currently being screened to see if they are good candidates for the Lyric. Those with severe hearing loss, a small ear canal, or a perforated ear drum are not eligible for this hearing aid.
