The subject of this week’s Viewfinder studied art at the University of Michigan. Like most artists she worked to support her art. Now her art supports her.

Katherine Weston moved to our area five years ago when her husband took a job here. It was then Weston realized she needed to seize the day and take her art to the next level.

Weston’s art is primarily mixed media. She uses more than one medium to make a multi- layered statement in a piece of art.

Multi-layered is a good way to describe Weston herself. Recently she combined her love for art and a passion for renovating old buildings and created her first business. The building at 27 Market St. in Brockport, NY is now the home of "A Different Path Gallery."

Weston admits a new art gallery is a risky venture, even in the best economic times.

Weston said, "If I hadn't looked at it as a big art project I probably wouldn't have been able to do it."

The gallery will also offer a gathering place for community groups and a venue for live music, dance and poetry.
