There are hundreds of women and single mom's living in transition as part of the YWCA who cannot afford much this holiday.
That's why the YWCA continues its Adopt-A-Family Program to help more than 250 families. The families made a wish list of things they need or would love to have. The community is encouraged to adopt-a-family and purchase items for that specific family.
There are 50 families left waiting to be adopted.
Another way to help is a shoebox donation. Simply fill a shoebox with basic toiletries and some feel good products like lotion and perfume and take it to the YWCA.
"Often the women we serve come to us with kind of deflated and part of what we are about is rebuilding their spirit as well as providing them with material goods,” said Jean Carroll, CEO of YWCA. “So it is very important for us to see those spirits lifted and some of the ways that happens is with help from the broader community."
Unwrapped gifts and filled shoeboxes need to be dropped off by Wednesday, Dec 15 at the YWCA located on Bittner St. in Rochester. If you need more information you're encouraged to call (585) 368-2261.
