Kodak celebrated the installation of its latest printer Thursday.

Mercury Print Productions is the first Rochester Company to utilize the Kodak Prosper 5000xl Press.

Kodak CEO Antonio Perez joined Mercury Print employees for an official ribbon cutting Thursday morning.

The printer features stream inkjet technology that increases Mercury's ability to produce short-run books in color.

By investing in the Prosper 5000xl, Mercury will retain 81 jobs and add more in coming years.

"We're planning on hiring about 40 to 50 people within the next three to four years,” said John Place, CEO of Mercury Print Productions. “Just to let you know we probably got about ten right now that we're starting to look to. This is obviously a monster machine. It's going to produce a lot of books and we need to be able to finish these so we will be hiring a lot of people in the next three to four years."

Mercury will also serve as a demonstration site for Kodak as well as book publishers looking to transform their business.
