A well-known citizen crime fighter is being remembered this weekend as a champion for those who work in public safety.
Virginia Sawdey passed away Thursday from complications from an infection. She was 88-years-old.
Sawdey worked closely with former Rochester Mayors Bill Johnson and Bob Duffy.
As a member of Pac Tac she worked side by side with the Rochester Police Department for more than 20 years and won several awards and citations for her crime prevention work.
She was nicknamed the "Mayor of Driving Park Avenue" for her work. She lobbied against cuts to the Rochester Fire department.
Funeral arrangements for Virginia Sawdey have not been finalized.
