A ceremony was held Saturday at the Rochester Fencing Club as the Mayor's office presented a Proclamation to two time Olympian Felicia Zimmermann.
June 23rd was declared Felicia Zimmermann Day in honor of her upcoming induction into the Fencing Hall of Fame.
Zimmermann grew up in Rush and trained at the Rochester Fencing Club which she now owns with her sister Iris.
"It was very exciting and quite a surprise," said Zimmermann. "That is something very humbling and I am so pleased. We bought this fencing club here about 3 years ago and we're so excited to continue the tradition of fencing and hopefully creating not just national champions but Olympic champions, I mean we've had ten Olympians come through this fencing club alone."
Zimmermann's induction to the Fencing Hall of Fame will take place in Anaheim, California next Saturday.
