Health insurance coverage exceeds expectations
A new report issued by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield shows insurance coverage rates in Upstate New York are already better than federal projections for 2022.
The report shows the uninsured rate for Upstate New York is at 8.6 percent from 2009 through 2011. That's about seven percent lower than the national average.
The report also shows about 63 percent of Upstate New Yorkers have access to health insurance through their employer. That's more than seven percent higher than the rest of the United States.
A federal report projects that 89 percent of Americans under the age of 65 will have health insurance by the year 2022.
Upstate New York is already ahead of that, with more than ninety percent of all Upstate New Yorkers having insurance in 2011.
