Daylight Saving Time Returns

Daylight Saving Time Returns
It's that time of year again to gain an hour of daylight and "spring forward." Daylight Savings Time officially began at 2 a.m. Sunday, but have you ever wondered why the change happens at that time?

The website LiveScience.com looked into the issue. It says the thinking goes that 2 a.m. is late enough that most people would be at home, with few bars and restaurants being affected. In addition, it prevented the date from switching back to yesterday when we "fall back."

LiveScience says the time is also early enough that the change happens before early shift workers and early churchgoers might be impacted.

So the only impact for most of us is one less hour of sleep.

Local fire departments use the clock change as a reminder to check your smoke detector batteries and replace them if necessary. Working smoke detectors save lives and reduce the chance of injury or death if a fire breaks out in your home.
