People living in an historic Finger Lakes village will take a vote Tuesday that could forever change the place.
The vote in Seneca Falls will decide whether to dissolve the village government. The proposal is seen as a way for people in the village to save significant dollars off their tax bills.
But some question how the move will impact services, especially law enforcement.
“I think dissolving the village is best for the long-term future,” said village resident Karen Graziano, who said she is not concerned about losing services now provided by the village.
Others feel losing the village would be a mistake.
“This village taking the bullet does not solve the problem,” said Mike Calabrese, whose son works for the Seneca Falls Police Department.
He has signs prominently displayed outside his custom shirt business in the village.
Supporters estimate dissolution will cut tax bills in half in the village of Seneca Falls, but opponents point out it will more than double taxes for many non-village residents living in the town of Seneca Falls.
Polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
