Car Crashes into House, Driver and Passenger Killed
A man and his grandmother were both killed in a Wednesday morning crash in Ontario County. The car they were traveling in drove through a field, crashed into a house, and caught on fire.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, the victims are 25-year-old Andrew Maslyn and 72-year-old Rosemarie Langdon, both of Shortsville.

Police said Andrew Maslyn was behind the wheel of a Buick sedan heading north on Route 21. Shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday, the car left the road, crossed a field, entered a mobile home park, hit the porch of one house, and then crashed into another.

Police said that both Maslyn and Langdon were trapped in their car, and the car caught on fire. The fire was put out, and crews worked for more than an hour to free the man and woman.

Both Maslyn and Langdon were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say both were killed on impact.

The house the car crashed into was badly damaged, and the person who lives there has been displaced. They were taken to the hospital in Clifton Springs to be evaluated.

The crash is under investigation.

Vance Kannapel's mom was inside her home when it happened.

"Came out the door and saw the car sticking in the side of a house, refrigerator and everything else tipped over inside – quite the mess."

Witnesses told investigators the car was going fast when it hit Norma Kannapel's double wide in Friendly Village, near the corner of Routes 21 and 96 in Manchester.

"Quite an impact. They said when the car was coming across the field it was moving,” Kannapel said.

"The car got caught underneath the house. The driver and front seat passenger were both trapped in the car for approximately an hour,” said Lt. Bill Gallagher of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Gallagher says Andrew Maslyn was taking his grandmother, Rosemarie Langdon, to the grocery store. Police are less sure why Maslyn's car veered off the road.

"We’ll go forward with the inspection of the car, see if there’s any indication of a mechanical problem, and wait for results from the medical examiner as to autopsies on the two victims,” Gallagher said.

Witnesses say the car left Route 21, and traveled well over 100 yards through a field, before entering the trailer park, and slamming into the trailer.

Inspectors condemned Norma Kannapel's home, which was knocked several feet into a car and a van parked on the other side. Her own home a loss, she'll now live with her son.

"She's physically okay, no cuts or bruises or anything like that, but very shaken up from the episode,” said Kannapel.
