A recent program to get repeat parking violators to pay up in the city is showing success.

The city of Rochester began its SmartBoot program in early August.

A parking bureau vehicle equipped with license plate recognition hardware and software has been patrolling city streets looking for vehicles that have three or more parking tickets, that are 90 or more days old.

A parking enforcement officer then boots those vehicles with new SmartBoots.

City Parking Director Sue Olley said the results can be seen financially.

"This is really wonderful and the money includes people that were not booted as well. So we were not expecting that number to be as large as its been, so we are really ahead of where we plan to be," said Olley.

To date, 1,680 tickets have been paid through the booting system.
