Representative Tom Reed held a news conference Thursday to discuss the importance of Medicare reimbursement.

Reed, the Corning Republican who represents New York's 29th District in Washington. wants certainty for doctors who provide services to senior citizens. He is concerned that if a long term solution to senior health care is not reached by February 29th, which is when the current extension runs out, seniors he believes will not get proper access to the care they need.

"With a cut of 30 percent in our reimbursement rates, how does that impact our seniors? In particular, their access to care by their physicians, because if the physician aren't reimbursed appropriately, they don't have the resouces to keep the lights on, literally," said Reed. "Obviously, that's of utmost concern is making sure that the system is sustainable and there is access by our seniors into the Medicare system."

Reed say that if a long-term deal is not reached, he is concerned that cuts would have to be made elsewhere.
