Republican Senator Joe Robach is again facing a challenge for his 56th District seat.

Democrat Robin Wilt announced her candidacy Wednesday. The 41-year-old Wilt was raised in Pittsford.

The mother of three children and a Brighton real estate agent says that, as senator, she will bring about common sense changes necessary in albany.

"I, like you, am tired of the dysfunction in Albany," Wilt said. "And I'm also tired of a system of legislative horse-trading where adhering to one's principals is derided as naive and impractical. As a mother, a community activist and a business owner, I have undergone the struggles of an uncertain economic environment. And it is precisely that which makes me uniquely suited to represent the interests of every day upstate New Yorkers in Albany."

In 2008, Robach beat Democrat Rick Dollinger to retain his seat. So far, Wilt is the only candidate to challenge Robach.

Robach released a statement saying, "At a time when New York City
leadership in this state is clearly out of touch with the needs of the people I represent in Rochester, I will keep fighting for our working families and people on fixed incomes who are struggling during these challenging economic times."
