Church Finds Place to Call Home
A church in Orleans County has something to celebrate, after it remained without a permanent place of worship for four years. As YNN’s Kate McGowan shows us, the Light of Victory church in Albion has finally found a place to call home.

ALBION, N.Y. — Pastor Rich Allis preaches Sunday mornings to a 60 member congregation at the Light of Victory Church in Albion.
“I have people coming from as far as Ransomville, they're coming from Buffalo, coming from Rochester. Every area you can imagine, they are coming from,” said Pastor Rich.
But it hasn't been an easy road for Pastor Rich. Four years ago, he received a calling from God to serve to the Albion community. The only thing was, he did not have a permanent place to hold worship.
The church's journey began in a home garage in Albion with a 20 member congregation, but it quickly expanded, and within months it had to relocate.
Members of the church moved to the Quality Work Life center at the Albion Correctional Facility.
“When you tell people, 'Oh, we're meeting in a building that is on the facility of a prison', they kind of look at you like, hmm?" said youth pastor Kim Scott.
At a cost of $100 per week, church members were grateful. But after three years, knew it was time to look for a permanent home.
“When the service was done, everybody would pick up a chair and move, pack it up. We would clean the floor, and leave the building just as we came in, like we never existed,” Pastor Rich said.
The pastor asked Albion town board members for help, and they led him to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Saint Mary’s closed a few years back, due to the rising costs.
At the end of March, the Light of Victory Church purchased Saint Mary’s from the Catholic Diocese for $160,000.
“It’s a beautiful church. I love this church, it really is,” said a church member.
“It’s a beautiful building, and we enjoy it. We are going to grow from here, and it's going to explode,” said another church member.
Pastor Rich held his third service in the new church on Easter Sunday.
“I feel at home and I am grateful to what God is about to do,” he said.
The church said despite the challenges, they just continue to keep the faith.
"It's just a sign to all of us that He wants us to continue to pursuing this mission that we're on," said Scott.
