A Rochester-based engineering firm has seen its business grow over the past year. Erdman Anthony was recently named one of the top 100 firms of its kind in the country.

Founded in 1954, Erdman Anthony was established to provide cost-effective infrastructure and building systems solutions for government and private sector clients.

Headquartered on Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road, Erdman Anthony was recently named one of the country's top 100 mechanical, electrical and plumbing firms.

"Our mechanical electrical field has done extremely well. Over the past 10 years, that's been our fastest-growing area. The company made a strategic commitment to broaden our services and go into that area and be strong in that area. I think how we've been successful is that we focused on doing a little bit more higher tech, so to speak, type of work," said Russ Bullock, Erdman Anthony president and CEO.

The firm also specializes in complex renovations. The majority of that type of work is done outside Monroe County; however, Erdman Anthony has been involved in local projects such as the renovation of the Chase Tower in downtown Rochester and Eastman Kodak's footprint reduction program that involved the demolition of more than 50 buildings.

"We were associated with rerouting of all the utilities within the park. What you saw were implosions of just structures, but that is an operational park and some people worked while others saw implosions. It was basically a large utilities project for us, rerouting, reconnecting of utility systems within Kodak Park," said Tad Bandurowski, Erdman Anthony vice president.

Erdman Anthony continues to grow. The firm opened three new offices this year. It employs more than 300, with a third of them based in Rochester.

When it comes to hiring, Erdman Anthony prefers to keep it local.

"We hire a lot of RIT students. I would say we may have more RIT graduates, engineers than any other schools. But we do have Cornell and Clarkson, U of R, UB, so there's quite a variety," said Bullock.

There may be more opportunities in the near future. Company officials say they have a strategic plan to grow the firm looking to double in size within the next five years.
