What started as a business plan back in 1990 has grown into a family business serving companies all over the world.
Heritage Packaging in Victor has been designing and creating packages since 1990.
From aircrafts to lawn seed and even wind turbine covers, Heritage creates state-of-the-art protective packages for all.
"We serve industrial accounts, military accounts, pharmaceutical accounts, general commercial business," said Bill Smith, president and general manager.
Bill Smith and his wife started the company that they now hope to one day pass on to their children.
"I didn't wake up one day and say, 'I think I'll become a packager,'" Smith said. "Packaging seemed to be a thing that we were good at and there was a need for in the area. We filled a void."
Today, Bill manages nearly 60 employees with his sons at his side.
"I am the marketing manager. My main roles are to find and solicit new business, making sure we keep running here," said Evan Smith.
"I deal a lot with the interesting projects that we do," said Russell Smith, vice president of engineering.
For sons Russell and Evan Smith, the production floor is always like a second home.
"I grew up doing part-time production work, working out on the floor making what we make," Even said.
Russell, an RIT graduate, is the company's vice president of engineering.
"The first year I was not the VP of engineering. It was more like VP of go sweep the floor," Russell said.
Bill said the family dynamic of the business has always been part of the plan. With his family at his side during day-to-day operations, the hope is to keep the business a success, even during the economic downturns.
"2008 was probably our best year ever. 2009 wasn't as good; it was a dramatic slowdown, but we are beginning now to see things come back," Bill Smith explained.
As business makes its comeback, Evan and Russell hope Heritage will continue to live on for future generations.
"I hope that one day my older brother and I will kind of take over the reigns from mom and dad and continue prospering here," said Evan.
