What started in a one room office on Lake and Ambrose streets back in 1971, has grown into a 100 person firm today.

Passero Associates is an engineering and architectural firm located in the City of Rochester. Wayne Wegman started with the Company in 1977. He now serves as its President.

"Business is picking up. I will say that, honestly. 2010 and the first half of 2011 were real slow but we see a real increase in work right now," said President Wayne Wegman.

Passero Associates has four locations, two in New York, in Rochester and Saratoga, and two in Florida, in St. Augustine and Jacksonville. Wegman says the company is expanding and adding positions.

"There's a need for some positions in our airport group and in our engineering department," said Wegman.

Wegman says one area of business he expects to grow in is the aviation market.

"We have a niche market and a lot of experience in airport aviation consulting. We work at 33 airports in New York, Connecticut, Vermont, and in Florida, we've developed a real expertise, as a matter of fact, 55 percent of our business in airport consulting," said Wegman.

Passero Associates also hopes to expand in residential housing designs on college campuses.

"I think with the cost of higher education right now, a very good alternative for higher education are the community colleges, and with that comes the demand for residential housing," said Wegman.

Wegman says the company has outgrown its current space that it has been in for the past 25 years. Just recently Passero purchased the old Josh Lofton School in the cascade district downtown. The company will occupy two floors and rent out apartments on the remaining two.

“As a professional service industry our only assets are our people. So we work very hard on developing a corporate culture that focuses on people to help them grow, expand and with that, our company grows."

With a new space and added positions, Wegman can't wait for 2012.

"The future does look bright! It does for us! I'm excited for us," said Wegman.
