Newark's Ultralife Corporation made a slight second quarter profit.

Net income of $20,000 translated to 0 cents per share, compared to a loss of 41 cents a share last year.

Ultralife management said manufacturing improvements and expense control led to the better numbers, even though sales of batteries to the U.S. Department of Defense were lower.
