Vitamins, hygiene products, even renewing oils.
"We call ourselves oilers because we just live with these products," said cancer patient Mary Anne Zani.
Zani doesn't just sell these items, she uses them every day.
"These oils are antiviral, antibacterial, anti-tumoral," Zani said.
Zani isn't saying these products can cure cancer, but she believes they can help a cancer patient recover. That's just what she did.
"It turned out I had a four centimeter cancerous tumor," Zani said.
In 2005, Zani was diagnosed with colon cancer. During her chemotherapy, she was introduced to young living essential oils. A complimentary treatment Zani says worked.
"The whole key for me was being open and humble," Zani said.
"People are hungering for this. We get asked that constantly," said Dr. Marilyn Ling, a radiation oncologist.
Ling says there is value in a non-traditional approach.
"As long as it's safe, that is good," Ling said. "They've done some studies about prayer. It does help."
Health supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry that's not regulated, so Ling says you have to be careful.
"The quality of the ingredients may not be what you're paying for actually," Ling warns.
In any case, you should always consult with your doctor.
"Why wouldn't a vitamin help me? Well, number one, do you need that vitamin? And let's make sure it's not interfering with the chemotherapy you're getting," said Ling.
"They said whatever you're doing, keep doing it," Zani said.
Five years after she was first diagnosed, doctors have given Zani a clean bill of health.
"I can't even tell you how joyful I am because I made it to that five year point," said Zani.
A successful fight against cancer, she says was at least aided by non-traditional treatment.
"It's changed my life," Zani said.
