Desk work: Sometimes it's simply boring, and other times no matter how exciting the work is, you just can't stay awake. The first mistake people make is skipping breakfast.

"If you are skipping breakfast it will create a rise in your hunger hormone, grelin, so that potentially kicks in appetite at lunch and you overeat," said Ellie Wilson, senior nutritionist, Price Chopper.

Overeating at lunch can be a set up for the midday nap.

"Too much food usually causes your body to drain energy a little bit later," said Wilson.

Put a limit on heavy foods for lunch like macaroni and cheese or other items high in carbs.

"The entirety of a large bagel too may be something that is a little bit too much of that type of energy. I want to see more of a half of that bagel with peanut butter, it would give you steady energy over the course of that morning," said Wilson.

Instead of snacks high in sugar, grab some lean protein and foods high in fiber.

"Round cheeses, like the Babybels with higher fiber crackers that is a great snack choice. Having some sliced almonds a six ounce cup of Greek yogurt," said Wilson.

In addition to poor nutrition, not enough sleep and too much alcohol can make the problem worse.

“Watch your alcohol, especially in the evening, that will play a role in the sleep quality and that will play a role in your energy the next day," said Wilson.

And don't let your body get dehydrated.

"Most of us don't detect we are dehydrated easily, making sure you are drinking water or tea can help you with the cycle of the three o'clock slump," said Wilson.
