The author of the prequels to the 'Little House on The Prairie' books and an illustrator from our area joined talents to create a new Christmas book.
'The Star of Christmas' by Maria DiVencenzo of Clarence is about a little girl who is enlisted by the ornaments on her tree to decide which is the star.
Illustrator Elaine Verstraete says she'll use this book as an example for her students at Rochester Institute of Technology. She has illustrated many childrens books, and will teach students about the long process from concept to product.
"The book took about 2 years to create," Versteate said. "Probably a year for the paintings themselves. But the preliminary work from the concept, working very closely with the designer, editor and author; we called ourselves 'the star team.' Once we established a beautiful flow to the story, then the illustrations; and that did include photo shoots."
The Star of Christmas is available at area book stores, or you can order it online.
