There was lot of energy at the Blue Cross Arena Saturday.
Close to 2,000 of the best cheerleaders and dancers from the greater Rochester region competed to be named the very best.
This is the 33rd annual Greater Rochester Cheerleading and Dance Championship. One-hundred ten teams from freshmen to JV to Varsity are competing.
Not only does it give the teams a chance to showcase their routines ... It teaches them sportsmanship and so much more.
"They take a lot of the comradery with them," said co-director Val Snelgrove. "They get to see other teams today. We also give scholarships. So some of the seniors are competing, not only for individual titles, but for scholarships. So they take a lot away with them, not just sports-wise, but academically."
This is the championship's 20th year at the Blue Cross Arena.
