A Gateways Music Festival musician from New York City reunited with a Rochester woman she became close with while studying at Eastman School of Music.
The concert featuring Kelly Hall-Tompkins was held Friday, hosted by her long-time friend and mentor Francine Conwell.
Hall-Tompkins first met Conwell when she received a prestigious scholarship while attending Eastman.
"I belong to the LINKS and we give a scholarship to an African-American student who is young, gifted and black," said Conwell. "I was the arts chair person at the time that Kelly was selected to receive it. The Eastman selects the student."
Hall-Tompkins makes the journey to Rochester every few years to see Conwell and other mentors in the area.
