The community is reacting to the results in our exclusive Voice of the Voter, YNN Siena Research Poll.
According to voters, incumbent candidate Mayor Tom Richards is well known, and well-liked.
"So far I've been impressed with what job he's done. I think he really is in touch with what the issues are," said Peter House.
The exclusive Voice of the Voter YNN Siena Research poll shows he's the front in the primary race for mayor. House is a poll participant who supports Richards.
"I particularly liked what he had to say about the city school district, that he wants to leave educators in charge of the city school district and that he's not going for mayoral control," said House.
We asked Democratic voters who would do a better job with some of the top issues. On education, 37% of voters liked candidate Lovely Warren. She edged out Tom Richards by 1%.
Warren also took the lead on neighborhood concerns.
"I would love to see a woman be the first mayor of Rochester," said Dominique Boller.
Boller is a poll participant in support of Warren.
"She's done a lot on the council for small businesses especially in my neighborhood, the Northeast area. Seeing that grow more would be excellent," said Boller.
Both candidates responded to the poll during an event at Susan B. Anthony Park Sunday afternoon.
"Our field data and other things are telling us something different. We believe that this race is closer than that poll has indicated," said Warren.
"The real poll is the vote on the 10th of September. We'll keep working on it. We've got work to do to get there and be successful," said Richards.
