On Sunday, students, families, and Rochester City School District staff gathered for a 124-year-old tradition.
The 'Transfer of the Flags' Ceremony presented student representatives from each school district with a new American flag.
Representatives are called 'Standard Bearers.' They receive flags based on their demonstrated citizenship and academic achievements.
"Some of them have great community service within their communities and within their schools," said Malik Evans, School Board President. "So they all understand the importance of service. These are people who will go on to be great leaders. I was a Standard Bearer when I was a student in the Rochester City School District."
'Transfer of the Flags' was originally proposed by one of the founders of Bausch and Lomb, Captain Henry Lomb.
