Six people are displaced after an apartment house fire early Sunday morning on the city's west side.
Fire crews were called to Austin Street around 4:45 a.m. after a tenant smelled smoke in their upstairs apartment coming from the floor below. Firefighters say the fire started in the first floor bedroom.
"It's a bedroom fire. It's pretty much contained to the bedroom," said Michael Dobbertin, Batallion Chief Rochester Fire Department. "It burned out the room, the contents, the mattress, everything in that bedroom. Smoke damage, some water damage to the rest of the house but flame damage confined to the bedroom."
The Red Cross is assisting the two families displaced. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
