The month of September has been declared "Hunger Action Month" by the City of Rochester and Thursday was designated "Go Orange for Hunger Day."
Foodlink and the city have teamed up to wear orange and raise awareness about hunger-related issues around the world.
Foodlink has created a "30 Ways in 30 Days Calendar" to highlight the programs they and other relief agencies offer, and to help raise awareness to combat hunger in our community.
"Here in our region, we have 50,000 children who are food insecure, which means that on a daily basis they may not know where or how their next meal will get to them," said Julia Tedesco, Foodlink's chief development officer.
We at Foodlink are not only raising awareness this month, but we're also encouraging people to take action and we're educating people about all the programs we have on a daily basis that aim to increases access of nutritious food for all individuals throughout our 10-county region."
All September long, Foodlink will be holding events. It's biggest fundraiser of the year, the Festival of Food annual tasting event, will be held Sept. 16. You can get tickets at your local Wegmans.
