The Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority and the University of Rochester have teamed up in an effort to reduce the parking problem on campus.
With a demand for parking that the campus cannot meet, there will now be an additional bus route that will run every half hour, seven days a week, starting at 6 a.m. and running until 6:30 p.m. For a dollar a ride, the bus will drop riders off directly at Strong Hospital.
Hugh Kierig, the Transportation and Services Director for the University of Rochester, acknowledges the new route as a solution to a problem plaguing UR.
"We have parking problems on our campus," Kierig said. "We have more demand than we have spaces for. So, we're looking as a university at ways we can reduce the number of vehicles coming to our campus, especially from employees, so we can make our parking spaces available to visitors and family members."
Route 52 picks up riders at East Avenue and Winton Road, then goes through Park Avenue and Goodman Street.
