The town plans to add on to the memorial so families have a quiet place to come and honor their heroes.
When the Town of Webster wanted to find a way to honor Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kacwoka, who lost their lives in the Christmas Eve shooting, a playground dedicated to first responders seemed perfect.
More than two hundred people attended Sunday's dedication ceremony. While watching Mike Chiapperini's daughters cut the ribbon, his sacrifice was evident.
"We recognize first responders start at a young age, they develop that, I wanna be a policeman, fireman, early on in life," said Ron Nesbitt, Webster Town Supervisor.
Supervisor Nesbitt says a pavilion and splash park will be added to the memorial playground by next summer.
"It gives you a quiet place here in the woods, a little bit of silence to remember," said Nesbitt.
