Federal agents in 20 states, including New York, have arrested nearly 50 people in connection to an international drug ring. Eight of those arrests occurred Monday morning in Rochester.
The drug at the center of the investigation is methylone - which is known on the streets as Molly.
Investigators say Joshua Berman, 25, is the local ringleader.
The main supply has been traced to China.
"We were well aware of the Chinese supplier prior to going up on our email interception here in Rochester; in fact, we had to lay out the probable cause to the judge as to why we believed this Chinese supplier was in fact supplying people here in the United States - including those here in Rochester," said U.S. Attorney William Hochul.
The eight people arrested in Rochester were arraigned in federal court Monday afternoon on charges of conspiring to import and sell methylone. They each face up to 20-years in federal prison if convicted.
