Two local businessmen are pedaling 500 miles from Rochester to Boston to support the Golisano Children's Hospital.
Bob Kirby of RE/MAX and Joe Petralia of First Rochester Reality, left the Golisano Children's Hospital on their bikes Monday morning. Kirby says he rides because his wife has worked at the hospital for 35 years and the two had a child who passed away at the hospital. Kirby and Petralia will ride 100 miles a day until they reach Boston on Friday. The two have been preparing for the last two months for their ride.
"Well, I ride four times a week, when the weather permits," Kirby said. "Already in Rochester, I have gone 3,800 miles around Rochester. I do it two to three hours at a time. I do it with the bicycling group out of Midtown Athletics Wednesday nights. They're a lot younger than me, but I keep up."
Kirby helped Petralia train for the race.
"Bob got me off the couch and into Sunday morning rides, 20 to 30 miles at a time riding three or four times a week got me prepared for this race." Petralia said.
Kirby says next year he has bigger plans for his ride. He says he plans on riding 3,800 miles from Seattle to Boston.
