An 18-year-old driver was killed in a crash in Parma, and a passenger in the car was seriously injured.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Victor Rex was the driver and Michael Maniscalco, 26, the passenger in a car that crashed on Burritt Road Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies say Rex was speeding, which factored in this crash.
Much of Burrit Road between Hill Road and Route 259 roads was shut down to traffic after the deadly crash.
Deputies say Rex was driving eastbound on Burrit Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car and ended up in someone's front yard.
As word spread of the crash, friends of the victim gathered near the scene. Jordan Apsey and Lexi Amico say they went to Hilton High School with the victims. They say Rex recently graduated.
"He was a good kid and he had a really good heart and I'm sad that he passed," Amico said.
"I'm really sad about it. He was like a brother to me," Apsey said.
Deputies say both teens lived near the area.
They are still investigating the crash.
The principal of Hilton High School issued a statement in regards to Victor's death. Brian Bartalo says, “As a school community, we are tremendously saddened by Victor’s death and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
