Area health care providers gathered in Rochester Monday to exchange ideas about incorporating new regulations when President Obama's Affordable Care Act goes into effect in January.
The Rochester Area Regional Health Exchange Outreach and Enrollment Summit included health agencies and governmental leaders. They met at the Memorial Art Gallery to strategize together on how best to coordinate outreach and enrollment efforts in the Rochester region.
Starting in January, an additional 56,000 currently uninsured residents of Monroe County will have access to the program.
Supporters say it will work because of the competition it generates.
"Instead of the three or four insurance companies that covered New York, we're going to have about 17 or 18 bidding for business and that's a great thing," said Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.
Slaughter says individuals buying insurance through the exchanges could see 50% in savings.
