Republicans will soon be searching for a candidate to challenge Congressman Dan Maffei in 2014, and one name that is now out of the running is Ann Marie Buerkle.
The former Congresswoman announced Wednesday morning that she will not seek the 24th Congressional seat next year which includes all of Wayne, Cayuga, and Onondaga County and parts of Oswego County.
Buerkle, who ousted Maffei from office in 2010, lost the House seat back to the Democrats this past election year. Until now, she had not ruled out a potential run.
This past summer, Buerkle was named as a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and says the role has helped her realize she can be an effective advocate on issues from outside of Congress.
She says she does plan to stay politically involved, but offered no specifics.
Her term on the Consumer Product Safety Commission continues until 2018.
