The Livingston County Sheriff's Department needs the public's help to find the motorist involved in a hit and run crash in Livonia last month.
Authorities say Richie Russer, 71, was struck by a van while riding his bike on West Lake Road in Livonia September 18. Deputies say they are looking for a light-colored Ford van or truck. Deputies found a portion of one of the rear view mirrors they believe is from the vehicle that hit Russer.
Authorities say Russer was struck while riding his bike around 7 a.m. He was thrown from his bike and ended up in a ditch. He managed to crawl out of the ditch and a passerby saw him and called 911.
Russer's daughter says he was in the hospital for about a week and is back in for more surgery. He broke his arm, shoulder, ribs and suffered a head injury.
"Obviously it is an accident, but to leave him there laying there like a deer or a dog and not turn around to see if he alright I cannot fathom that and I just don't know how someone can live with themselves everyday thinking that. It is heartbreaking," said Murry Hooper, Russer's daughter.
Authorities have checked hundreds of Ford vehicles in and around Livingston County. If you have information on the vehicle or the driver you are encouraged to call 911 or the Livingston County Sheriff's Department at (585) 243-7100.
