Former Rochester Mayor and current Lieutenant Governor, Bob Duffy, is stepping in to try an end a labor dispute between Wegmans Food Markets and roughly 900 employees represented by Teamsters Local 118.
Duffy said in a news release that he's calling on both sides to come to an agreement.
Employees want to keep their current pension and retirement fund. The union says Wegmans' offer would immediately cut employee's compensation package, eradicate their pension and jeopardize their spouses' health care. Wegmans called the current pension fund troubled, and blames the union for providing misinformation and pressure on its members.
Duffy says the two sides will resume negotiations October 11th.
