An important reminder from firefighters who are spreading safety tips this week, which if followed, will make it less likely that they'll have to show up at your home.
It is national fire prevention week and Rochester firefighters and city officials are warning about the dangers of kitchen fires. They say most are preventable through awareness.
"One, pay attention. Don't walk away from it. And two, don't throw water on a grease fire. Cover it up, don't make it worse," said Rochester Mayor Tom Richards.
Firefighters have fought 500 kitchen fires in the city so far this year.
