Fallen heroes were remembered in Albany Tuesday as nine new names were added to the New York State Fallen Firefighter Memorial. Those names now join the thousands of other fallen firefighters remembered on the wall.
Included in the new additions are two names of firefighters killed in the Christmas Eve ambush in Webster.
It was an emotional service for West Webster firefighters as they honored the memories of Michael Chiapperini and Thomas Kaczowka.
"It's just an honor to be here to support the families, to honor our two fallen and see them memorialized here in Albany forever," said West Webster Firefighters' Association president Ken Smith.
"We want to be able to move on at some point but you plan a new normal. Makes it difficult, but it has to be done. They deserve it," said Chief Jim Deisenroth, West Webster Fire Department.
Fifty members of the West Webster Fire Department were on hand for the ceremony, along with dozens from area Rochester departments, all adding to a vast crowd of firefighters from around the state.
A firefighter from Chautauqua County was also remembered in the ceremony Tuesday.
Ron Keddie, 64, of the Sheridan Fire Department was honored at the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.
He died after a medical emergency while getting ready to respond to a car accident in June of 2012.
