The man shot in the officer-involved shooting Sunday night on Merrimac Street in Rochester has been upgraded from guarded to satisfactory condition at the hospital.
Officers say Tyshawn Johnson, 20, ran from police and was leading a chase down Merrimac with another man when Johnson turned and displayed a gun. Officer Cody Goodfriend responded by firing at Johnson, hitting him in the buttocks.
Johnson is charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard alleges that Johnson was armed with a sawed-off .410 shotgun.
Goodfriend is assigned to administrative duties through the investigation.
