A hearing continued for the Monday for the woman accused of buying the guns William Spengler used in the Christmas Eve shooting in West Webster. The Huntley Hearing for Dawn Nguyen began last Monday.
At issue: the admissibility of texts and phone calls Dawn Nguyen allegedly made in the hours following the Christmas Eve ambush in Webster, and statements she allegedly made to police.
A New York State Police investigator testified about interview the night he conducted with Nguyen in the evening hours of Christmas Eve 2012. Defense attorney John Parrinello questioned why that interview was not recorded.
Next up was a jail deputy and friend of Nguyen's. The deputy testified about texts and phone calls from a person he believed to be Nguyen. Parrinello said the deputy's testimony varied from that he gave to the grand jury.
"The jail deputy is confused. He says in his deposition that he had a telephone conversation which my client said she brought the guns for the guy, and in his grand jury, he told the grand jury that no such question and statement was made, so you've got
two competing statements by him, one in the grand jury under oath, and another in a deposition under the penalty of perjury," Parrinello said.
The hearing is going to go into a third day. Parrinello plans on calling at least one witness before wrapping up.
