A new apartment building on University Avenue has been given the go-ahead by the Rochester City Planning Commission.
The planning board considered information discussed during a public hearing last Monday.
Although several residents were pushing to preserve the area, the decision was passed to build 99 units of apartment space at 933 University Ave.
"It clearly fails to reflect the zoning for this piece of property," said Bruce Barnes, George Eastman House.
"We feel we fit within the neighborhood, this is a very eclectic neighborhood and our building fits well within it," said Kevin Morgan, Morgan Management vice president.
The decision still has to pass the preservation board for final approval. If granted, construction may begin in late winter or early spring.
