"Get your Dick's Rewards cards right here; it takes 10 seconds."
Dick's Sporting Goods in Batavia has opened the door to new deals.
"To just look around, it's new here in Batavia and I am a big sports person. I enjoy hunting and fishing a lot," said shopper Robert Morris of Batavia.
It also makes more products available closer to home.
"I think it's a great idea. We need more options in town instead of having to go to either Buffalo or Rochester, so its nice," said Jaimie Stanton of East Bethany.
"I think the store is great. It's a lot bigger then I thought it was going to be inside and they have a lot of good stuff," said Morgan Jackson of Pavilion.
The store did face some hurdles prior to this opening over whether or not COR Development should receive tax breaks to bring Dick's Sporting Goods to this location. The company received tax breaks for construction of a Lowe's store here.
After Lowe's eventually closed, many people tried to persuade the Genesee County Economic Development Center to not allow tax breaks for the same site with a different store.
In the end, COR Development ended up with $1.7 million in tax breaks to bring Dick's to this shopping plaza.
"We definitely wanted to be in this area and be able to service the people in the community," said community marketing manager Mark Mackisoc.
"I just don't think it's right. I know what they are trying to do, but it's still playing favorites and that's not what the government is supposed to be doing," said shopper Glenn Merrill.
The store opens at 9 a.m. every day except Sunday, when it opens at 10 a.m.
